VFW Flag Ceremony, 9 Jun 2012

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2266 conducted their Flag Ceremony giving proper rites and ceremony to destroying American Flags that are no longer fit for display. Two Tahquitz cadets carried the flags along their final journey amidst a crowd assembled at the VFW meeting hall.

The Color Guard kicks off the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2012. SgtMaj Harrell led the procession into the stadium. LtCol Akana was among those who announced the names of graduates on the loud speaker system as they received their diplomas. This year's ceremony included a fireworks show that underscored the celebration of Tahquitz Seniors stepping out into adulthood.

Senior Awards Night, 29 May 2012

The Color Guard opened the awards ceremony to the pledge of allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem. LtCol Akana presented the JROTC Department Award for Outstanding Senior, USMC Excellence Awards on behalf of the Marine Corps, and the Army's Outstanding Athlete Awards on behalf of the U.S. Army.

Cadets take the time to help the citizens of Hemet remember the heroes who died in preserving our freedoms. They escorted the wreath layers from several civic organizations to be laid upon gravesites, brought the flag to half mast as a 21-gun salute was fired, and carried the flags of the U.S. Armed Services. LtCol Akana gave a short speech to emphasize that our freedoms are only temporary and that each generation must secure it for the next generation of Americans.

Underclass Awards Night, 22 May 2012

National Youth League, National Physical Fitness Competition, 18-19 May 2012

Tahquitz cadets competed at this year's National competition for the their straight year. The Girls team competed on Friday and the Boys team on Saturday.

Elementary Academic Honor Roll Ceremony, 17 May 2012

Hemet Unified School District annually honors elementary schools in the district for academic achievement. This year's ceremony was conducted at West Valley High School with Tahquitz MCJROTC's Color Guard presenting the colors.

PE Department Field Meet, 16 May 2012

Building traditions, Tahquitz cadets assumed control of the PE classes again and conducted a filed meet pitting one PE class against the others in games of stamina and skill. Events included the boardwalk, pipe race, three-legged race, water balloon toss/race, and more.

JROTC Awards Ceremony, 7 May 2012

The Pot Luck Dinner started at 1730 behind the theater and was the best one so far. Mrs. Mendiola organized other parents to coordinate what to bring and went he extra mile and got donations from local stores and restaurants to make the dinner very memorable AND DELICIOUS ! We had special guests this year to help with the presentations -- Hemet Mayor Pro-Tem Jim Foreman and Hemet Unified School District Assistant Superintendent Mr. Vince Christakos.

Cadets gave up their weekend to help fight cancer at Relay For Life. They operated a Jail that earned $250 for the team and took turns walking the track all day and into the night.

Color Guard Shows Pride at PetCo Stadium, 25 Apr 2012

Tahquitz cadets presented the colors at the opening ceremony of the San Diego Padres vs the Washington Nationals baseball game in PetCo Park. Afterwards, the cadets were treated to terrific first base seats and cheered the Padres for nine innings while snacking, waving, and shouting to their favorite players.

Notice: The JROTC Awards Ceremony is fast approaching -- Monday, May 7th in the theater, 6:30pm to 8:00pm. This event is mandatory for cadets. There will be a pot luck dinner at 5:30. Your cadet should give you a paper explaining expectations and asking for a list of dishes that you can bring to the pot luck dinner. Participation in the pot luck in voluntary. This is the last day for uniforms. Uniform turn in will be conducted by Supply on Saturday May 5th.

American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Dinner, 21 Apr 2012

Social media saved the day for the Ladies Auxiliary. They called Tahquitz JROTC about 15 minutes before their dinner was due to start, after they realized they had forgotten to arrange for help in the kitchen and to serve meals. We told them it was unlikely we could muster any support on such short notice and it was Saturday. But a short post on Facebook got the word out quickly and cadets answered the call. The Auxiliary's collective sigh of relief could be felt as they watched cadets come through the front door dressed and ready to work with a smile. They served dinner, bussed tables, washed dishes, and cleaned the kitchen. Another superb job -- Well Done Tahquitz!

Career Fair, Brandman University, 11 Apr 2012

Six members of the Color Guard presented the colors at Brandman University's Career Fair. Afterwards, they attended several of the presentations on careers and visited the various booths offering jobs to college graduates.

University of California - Riverside Field Trip, 9 Apr 2012

26 cadets toured UCR today. They received a very informative brief on admission procedures, toured the dormitories, and walked the campus visiting the various colleges of UCR. The trip was organized primarily for first year cadets so that they would become motivated to work hard to meet college entrance requirements in the next three years. The road to success begins with a first step -- or in this case, a field trip.

Cadets sell drinks and offer students a chance to win prizes in a game of "Stand Up The Bottle" during Tahquitz High School's Spring Carnival. Proceeds were divided between JROTC and ASB. Congratulations to cadets who volunteered to run the booths and making JROTC one of the most profitable booths of the carnival !

Rancho Viejo Fun Run, 30 Mar 2012

Cadets led the pack at Rancho Viejo Middle School in their annual Fun Run. They passed out water to the students and encouraged them to not give up. Tahquitz cadets are a familiar fixture of this event as we have supported them every year.

Redondo Union HS Drill Meet, 24 Mar 2012

WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE! were the cries of our Armed Drill Team as they received the First Place trophy at the drill meet in Redondo Beach this past Saturday. But this was only a warm up as they continue to prepare for the National Drill Competition next month. Last year our drill team finished an impressive fourth place at Nationals and our sights are aimed even higher as we approach the competition this year.

JROTC Ball, 17 Mar 2012

Over one hundred cadets and guests attended this year's JROTC Ball held at Menifee Lakes Country Club. Dinner included roast beef and chicken parmesan. Graduating seniors were announced individually and given honors under an arch of swords. Our special guest was Tahquitz HS art teacher, Mr. Harv Fischer who received a certificate of appreciation from the Battalion Commander, for his service to the school.

JROTC Basketball Tournament, 10 Mar 2012

Tahquitz MCJROTC joined many JROTC teams from throughout Southern California for Hemet High School's JROTC Basketball Tournament. Though we didn't place in the top three this year, cadets got to meet old friends from other high schools, and engage in fun competition on the court.

Tahquitz HS Fitness Challenge, 3 Mar 2012

Seven teams competed at this year's Tahquitz HS Fitness Challenge competition. JROTC teams from the Inland Empire came to show what they were made of, and it was obvious the ingredients included large quantities of motivation, enthusiasm, and a dash of nervousness, all mixed together with a day full of fun.

Law Enforcement Dinner, 3 Mar 2012

Cadets assist American Legion Post 53 at their annual Law Enforcement Dinner honoring local police officers and firemen in the community for outstanding and meritorious service. Cadets helped prepare food in the kitchen, washed dishes, served dinner, performed the opening color ceremony, and cleaned up afterwards.

Camp Pendleton Orientation Visit, 20-23 Feb 2012

50 cadets attended the orientation visit to MCB Camp Pendleton. Everyone had a terrific time touring various units on the base and engaging in leadership and team building activities. The last day offered a real treat as they crawled through mud, over walls, and ate MREs!

Cadet Leadership Camp, Ramona High School, 18-19 Feb 2012

Ten schools from the MCJROTC 4th Region participate in this year's Cadet Leadership Camp held at Ramona HS. The camp was supposed to last three days, but our seven Tahqutiz cadets attended only two days due to conflict with the Camp Pendleton field trip, but they still got honorable mention from the camp director for their exemplary performance, enthusiasm, and top test scores.

Cadets raise money for JROTC selling drinks at the Sharp International Dance and Cheer Competition held at Tahquitz High School. Arriving half asleep at 7am on a Saturday, cadets worked all day until almost the last team passed through the doors on the way out after 8pm. Good job supporting the team!

Community Pantry, 14 Jan

Eleven cadets gave up their Saturday to help the Hemet food bank move to a new location at 521 N. San Jacinto Ave. Moving literally tons! of food meant lots of lifting, sorting,and stacking of canned and dry goods. Underprivileged and homeless citizens can expect outstanding service from the new executive director, Mr. Jim Lineberger who has big plans for supporting Hemet's needy.

American Legion New Year's Eve Dinner

Cadets from the Drill Teams serve diners at the American Legion Post 53 as they celebrate the New Year. After dessert, the cadets bussed tables and cleaned up in the kitchen. In appreciation, they donated $150 to Tahquitz MCJROTC and each cadet received a special gold coin. The cadet Battalion Commander, c/LtCol Minh T. is shown accepting the donation.

Hemet Downtown Christmas Parade, 3 Dec

The Band, MCJROTC, and the Cheerleaders represented Tahquitz at this year's Downtown Christmas Parade. The Color Guard led the way for the cadets during the one mile parade route. Spectators were treated to several performances of the Armed Drill Team and some motivating cadences and verbal responses from the Battalion.

Veterans Drill Meet, Chaparral HS, 19 Nov

Titans earned top honors with a second place in the Color Guard competition, the Armed Drill Team placed fourth, and our own cadet Ivan P. won third place in the armed tap out competition. Cadets enjoyed a well deserved lunch of hamburgers and fries at Five Guys.

Fall Carnival, THS Lunch Court, 18 Nov

Another year, another fund raiser during the Tahquitz HS Fall Carnival. Cadets sold water and sodas and challenged students to "Stand Up the Bottle" in the game with the same name.

Flag Ceremony, Camelot Retirement Community, 12 Nov

Members of the Color Guard help retired seniors celebrate Veterans Day. They performed a color ceremony and spent the afternoon sitting with veterans and discussing what it is like being part of the "Greatest Generation."

VFW Buddy Poppy Drive, 12 Nov

Six cadets spent the day assisting veterans of the San Jacinto - Hemet VFW Post 2266 solicit donations during their Buddy Poppy fund raising event outside WalMart. Hemet citizens were so generous, within a couple hours, the donation container had to be emptied to make room for more.

City of Hemet Veterans Day Celebration, Gibbel Park, 11 Nov

50 cadets displayed state flags at the City of Hemet Veterans Day Ceremony in Gibbel Park. Many volunteered to help run the city booth where citizens created homemade cards for the sailors and soldiers deployed overseas. In the afternoon, the Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams performed for the crowds to huge applause.

Titans celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday, 10 Nov

The battalion mustered in the lunch court to celebrate the 236th birthday of the United States Marine Corps with a cake cutting ceremony. Huge crowds of students lined the tables to sample some cake but were asked to wait until after the ceremony. When the ceremony was complete someone shouted to the crowd "Whoever wants cake, shout OORAH!" and with perfect unison and enthusiasm that would make Chesty Puller proud, these non-cadets shook the windows with a loud OORAH!


Parking Detail, 10 Nov

The Titan football seasoned wrapped up with a loss to Hemet HS but the JROTC parking detail has a perfect record when it comes to supporting Tahquitz Athletics. Parking receipts this year totaled nearly $2000 to help pay for sports officials and to keep our athletic program strong despite education budget cuts.

Cawston Elementary Fall Carnival, 28 Oct

17 Cadets volunteer to help Cawston Elementary
run their Fall Carnival. Cadets officiated at the
various races; sack, stilts, hula hoop, and tricycle.
They operated many of the fun booths like the
fingernail painting and crazy hair booths. Cadets
could be seen selling snow cones, popcorn, and
sodas and candy too.

Parking Detail, 21 Oct

Another successful parking detail for the Homecoming
football game. Smiles are well earned for a job done
extremely well. This crew parked almost four times
the number of cars parked in past games. Not only
did the main lot fill up, but also the administration lot,
the theater lot, and even the preferred parking was
close to capacity before the night ended. Cadets
collected over $400 for the Tahquitz Athletic Program.

WASC is in the house! 16 Oct

Cadets join the ASB and Titan Cheerleaders to welcome the WASC team to Tahquitz High School. The Color Guard greeted team members and distinguished visitors as they arrived and presented the colors at the opening meeting.

Campus Clean Up, 15 Oct

A general call went out to the school this week and 26 cadets answered by giving up on their Saturday to help prepare the campus for the WASC team visit. Washing windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, and much more, they put a fresh face on the campus that demonstrates the Titan pride at Tahquitz

Fall Carnival. They helped with the set up
and clean up but most fun was operating several
of the games and serving food and drinks to the
hundreds of knee-high future cadets.

Campus Tour of CSU San Bernardino, 10 Oct

Cadets tour California State University,
San Bernardino. The campus guide
described the types of majors available
and pointed out many interesting sights.
Notable was the fact that everywhere they
looked, students were reading a book,
writing a paper, or doing research on a laptop.
The tour was part of the Researching Colleges
lesson being taught this month in JROTC.

Boot Camp Challenge, 24 Sep

Over 2,000 people participated in this year's Boot Camp Challenge including our own tough Tahquitz Leathernecks. The three mile run was a made a little bit rougher by jumping over hay bales, climbing logs and walls, being ordered to do push ups, crawling through pipes and under simulated barbed wire. The booming voices of the drill instructors could be heard shouting "Who told you you can walk?!" "Get over my logs!" "Get up off my deck!" "Nobody cares! RUN!" All things considered, just another Easy Day for our cadets.

Temecula Valley College Expo, 24 Sep

Over 150 colleges and vocational schools lined the walkways of the Promenade Mall in Temecula to inform prospective students, young and old, of advantages, benefits, and the entrance procedures of various schools. Approximately 120 cadets from Tahquitz, Chaparral, and Hemet high schools helped move equipment and handouts from the parking lot to the college's respective table inside the mall, passed out lunches to the college recruiters, distributed informational bags, and greeted shoppers at the mall entrances. After the event, cadets took a few extra minutes to do some "Mad Shopping" of their own before heading home.

Field trip to Marine Recruit Depot, San Diego, 23 Sep

50 Cadets ooh'd and ahh'd as Echo Company marched in perfect step onto the grinder for their graduation from Marine Corps Boot Camp in San Diego. After the ceremony they enjoyed a special graduation lunch in the mess hall and a short windshield tour of the base before returning to Tahquitz.

Basic Leadership Training at Chaparral HS, 16-18 Sep

Thirteen cadets attended Basic Leadership
Training over the weekend along with about
150 other cadets from Murrieta Valley,
Corona, West Valley, Chaparral, and Orange
Glen high schools.

Training included drill (of course!), water
survival, personal hygiene, and physical fitness.

The Tahquitz MCJROTC Color Guard carried the colors at a ceremony for the seniors at the local Assisted Living Facility in Hemet.

Color Guard and Parking Detail helps at Home Football Game, 9 Sep

Cadets show their pride and support for the season's first home football game. Color Guard opened the event with a presentation of the colors during the National Anthem. The Parking Detail collected donations for the athletic department and 50 cadets and football players carried the state flags at halftime.

Senior Leadership Camp, 10-13 Jun 2011

Seven cadets attended this year's Leadership Camp held at the Pathfinder Ranch in Mountain Center, CA. Cadets leaders from California, Utah, and Arizona, honed their skills with leadership classes and practical applications where they are assigned a team and a puzzling task to accomplish. Emphasis this year was on participative leadership and exploiting the talents within your team.
